Dev. Com. & Development awareness Condition in Nepali Media

Development Communication and Development awareness Condition in Nepali Media
What is Development?
Development signifies or changes for the better in any aspect of a social process. Applied to an economy, it means growth in its different sectors of production and distribution, improving standards of education, living and civilization of the people, improving wages for the workers, etc.
Development describes the growth of humans throughout the lifespan, from conception to death. The scientific study of human development seeks to understand and explain how and why people change throughout life. This includes all aspects of human growth, including physical, emotional, intellectual, social, perceptual, and personality development.
The scientific study of development is important not only to any field, it is important also to communication, education, psychology, sociology, and health care.
Hahn-Been Lee says: "Development is a process of acquiring a sustained growth of a system's capability to cope with new, continues changes towards the achievement of progressive political, economic and social objectives."
Milton J. Esman Rightly Says: "Development is the national progress of organizing and carrying out prudently conceived and staffed programs or projects as one would organize and carry out military or engineering operations"
Development must be judged by its impact on people, not only by changes in their income but more generally in terms of their choices, capabilities and freedoms; and we should be concerned about the distribution of these improvements, not just the simple average for a society.
Development also carries a connotation of lasting change. Providing a person with a bednet or a water pump can often be an excellent, cost-effective way to improve her well-being, but if the improvement goes away when we stop providing the bednet or pump, we would not normally describe that as development (cgdev.org).
Although most scholars would agree that development means improving the living conditions of society. There has been debate on just what constitutes improved living conditions and how they should be achieved.

Definition of Development Communication:
Development communication refers to the use of communication to facilitate social development. It is concern with the role of communication in directed social change. Development communication has been defined in several different ways by economic development experts, sociologists, and communication experts.
Uma Nerula has defined, Development communication is described as the systematic use of communication in support of national development.
Development communication engages stakeholders and policy makers, establishes conductive environments, assesses risks and opportunities and promotes information exchanges to bring about positive social change via sustainable development. Development communication techniques include information dissemination and education, behavior change, social marketing, social mobilization, media advocacy, communication for social change and community participation. (Wikipedia.com)
According to the World Bank, development communication is the "integration of strategic communication in development projects" based on a clear understanding of indigenous realities.
Bessette (2006) defined development communication as a "planned and systematic application of communication resources, channels, approaches and strategies to support the goals of socio–economic, political and cultural development".

Relation between Media and Society:
The Mass Media constitute a powerful and pervading force in our lives. We are exposed daily to a bombardment of media massages. Most of the information we received about our community, our state, the nation, and the world comes to us through newspapers, magazines, television, and radio.
In the other part, the mass media can serve a variety of important public relations, public education and prevention of wrongs in the human services. The mass media play a very significant role in shaping our perceptions of reality. (B.N. Ahuja & S.S Chhabra, 2004)
However, the mass communication industry is faulted, by many critics, for failing to promote informed public debate about pressing national issues, despite the industry's periodic bouts of self-analysis designed to reassure itself that it is performing its vital societal function responsibly and effectively.
Media Role for Development and Awareness Condition:
Media plays the important role for to do active participation all types of group or back facing the community. In the last time, Media is going on the way of globalization, informatisation, entertainment-education, developing the society and organizing for directed social change.
United Nation Millennium development goal declared in 2000: UN Millennium development goal declared its goal for eradication of poverty, control of aids/ HIV, decrease high mortality rate and others and since Nepal has also signed the conventions and committed to achieve goal with in 2015. From there till now days, Nepali media are playing the important role for awareness, informative and to help the target goal. As well as Nepali media are coordinating to achieve these goals and working with government and non government organization.
If we see the different research finding dates', we can found increased the awareness in different sector case by media. For example, Radio, TV, Newspapers, Online or others news media is giving news and showing public awareness type advertisement. From there we can found many people have been aware.
According to Ganatantra Daily of Rukum (2071), there has developed the media in highly rate in local level as well as development part in the education, aware, health, develop to society are also increasing.
Media role of development support communication is not as disseminator of exogenous messages but instead as facilitators of empowered local communities, as a source strengthening local knowledge, experiences, and narratives and of encouraging active agency at the grass root in the process of directed social change. (Kharel, 2013)
In Nepal, Many village development committees can access the internet service provided by Nepal Telecom, and others different Internet affiliates private companies, and as a result rural people's lifestyles and daily routines are perceptively changing for good. They are now connected through networks and are, therefore, never clueless about their sons and daughters working abroad; are in e-contact, and regularly receive remittances.
According to Uma Narula, for to do development there should have necessary awareness leadership, administrative and masses (peoples), as well as if there must need be awareness, motivation and participation and media should play the vital role and then development can go ahead.
In terms of Nepal, Nepal government is giving the welfare ad to media as informative and educative ways; from there one site, public awareness is increasing, and another site media sustainability part is becoming easy and they playing the important role for society. Now a days, Each and every mass media (Newspapers, Magazine, Radio, TV, Online Etc) are giving the program related health, society, education, current affairs, infrastructure, development etc.  This type of program has been adding contribute to society in large scale.
Post 1990, growth of community FM station is in Nepal, working for community empowerment and development.
Media in Nepal advocated for positive change in the people’s revolution and loktantrik revolution of 2062/063. Nepali Media always playing the role for peace, freedom, development and constitution.
Since then in the post conflict period Nepali media is favoring for peace, democracy, development, constitution, identity, state of law and good governance. Media is advocating for literacy, education, economic growth, infrastructural development.
Political and social awareness and voice for rights and equality is supported and established by media.
However, it is alleged or criticism that for Nepali media, there Nepali Media can't giving the important space in front page or prime time for development issues. It is look like always misguiding by political surface issues.

Conclusion:
Development means improving the living conditions of society and Development communication is concern with the role of communication in directed social change. Development communication is described as the systematic use of communication in support of national development.
The Mass Media constitute a powerful and pervading force in our lives. We are exposed daily to a bombardment of media massages. Most of the information we received about our community, our state, the nation, and the world comes to us through newspapers, magazines, television, and radio.
